Nothing Like Fawlty Towers Dec 14

England is a fantastic Country, and I’m not just saying that because I am English myself, but it does have some fantastic countryside and locations for UK holidays, something that is often overlooked to the detriment of our planet through increasing global warming.

Torquay is a fantastic destination, known as the English Riviera it’s easy to understand why, and not all Torquay hotels are your typical Fawlty Towers with rude and over-aggressive hotel staff. TLH Leisure Resort is a fantastic resort for couples and families alike, and there is definitely no Basil Fawlty to argue with you and recommend you try another hotel closer to the sea, “preferably in it”!

At TLH you can relax in the beautiful restaurants without having to witness poor Manuel being physically abused, and can experience the award winning restaurant at the Toorak hotel.

The resort features 4 great hotels and self catering apartments, all within easy access to the many leisure facilities offered by the resort such as bowling, the Aztec gym and indoor swimming pool plus outdoor pools for those glorious summer days, not forgetting the seasonal entertainment on offer, day and night!

TLH Leisure Resort really is a fantastic place to spend your holiday, with a good selection of hotels in Devon, with self-catering options available and the wealth of activities to keep everyone entertained, from young to old.

Walt Disney World Dec 12

For the second year in a row, Christa and I made it to Disney World. Again, this is the most spectacular place on Earth. With this years video, I took a different direction: I reused a song. For my wife and myself, U2’s Beautiful Day sorta became our personal anthem for the parks. Everytime we heard the song, we remembered the wonderful time that we shared. So, that being said, I created the 2007 Walt Disney World video, featuring U2’s Beautiful Day. I hope you enjoy Music: U2 – Beautiful Day…

Luxury Holidays: Caribbean or Maldives? Dec 06

The all-inclusive Caribbean holiday has long been the destination of choice for many holidaymakers, with the exclusive luxury resorts long associated with the rich and famous and was a location that offered so much.  Recently, however, the Maldives has shown itself as a real competitor and figures from Kuoni reveal that the Maldives is now the second favourite long-haul holiday destination behind Thailand.

The article goes on to say how it shouldn’t really be a case of which is better.  Every destination has its own unique features, but it should be more a case of which is better, for you.
So first off, what characteristics make the Maldives a contender?  It is a beautiful island that fits completely with our idea of a tropical location: white powdery palm fringed beaches, clear blue skies and turquoise clear water.
With this beauty comes isolation, with the islands essentially cut off from civilisation there is no traffic, no pollution and no city noise – all fantastic but this also means no variety which is where the Caribbean comes into its own.

The islands within the Caribbean offer so much in the way of choices, with the volcanoes, rainforests and black and white beaches of St. Lucia to the relative flatness of tropical Barbados.
The resorts on the Caribbean also offer incredible variety, from old colonial to modern chic whereas strict planning laws in the Maldives has resulted in cosy cottages and wooden bungalows on stilts with often one resort per island giving you the element of exclusivity.

Families are better off opting for the all-inclusive Caribbean holidays, where activities and food is catered for.  The Maldives is calmer and quieter, and may be boring for the younger members of the family.  Couples however are better suited to the Maldives for the opposite reason; romantic scenery and no screaming kids, just you and your partner in idyllic bliss.

Local cuisine at both destinations is fantastic, with some fantastic local regional dishes in the Caribbean.  Dining in the Maldives is a different experience altogether, with no local restaurants and no connecting ferries to different hotels, meals will have to be taken at your hotel, and this can be very pricey indeed and may leave you shocked and very short of cash.
Alternatively you could take the worries away and opt for all-inclusive accommodation, where all your meals, snacks and local drinks will be covered in the price of the holiday.

Price-wise, the Caribbean is King.  It offers something for every budget, from high end exclusivity to bed and breakfasts for backpackers on a budget.  The Maldives however is only really able to cater for the higher budgeted holidays.

Big 5 Safari Holidays Dec 05

Those embarking on a safari holiday will likely be hoping to spot as many of the big five as possible. So where is the best place to go to do so?

First off, which animals are categorised within the big five? These are lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos and rhinos. Secondly, where can we see them? A safari holiday in Kenya is a fantastic place to spot the big five, and to also view the beautiful African savannah landscape.

But just going to this country will not guarantee that you see these majestic animals. It is important to ensure you are in safe experienced hands to guide you to the very best locations in order to see these beautiful animals. Many of the best safari lodges and bush camps are situated in prime spots to view the animals like for instance Tree Tops lodge in Kenya is situated in Aberdare National Park in front of a watering hole, so at dusk you can watch all of the animals come to drink along the ancient elephant migratory route.

Game spotting can be very dangerous and it is recommended that you travel with established organisations that can look after your safety.

Africa Sky offer safari holidays across Africa, and have years of experience. For this reason they are able to offer great tailor made safari holidays throughout Africa at some of the best locations.

Self Catering Holidays in Sussex Dec 04

Recently I wanted to take a short break from work, and I definitely wanted to get out of the house for a while, but as it was mid spring, I didnt have the time or the budget to make it worth going abroad.

Luckily, I was recommended to a little comany in West Sussex call Arundel Town Cottages by a friend of a mine – and I had the most relaxing 7 days off work that I’ve ever had!

Arundel Town Cottages are a fantastic small business who let out (surprisingly) holiday cottages, on short term lets. They currently have two gorgeous cottages on Bond Street in Arundel, which is far enough away from London to make you feel like you’re in a different part of the country, but not so far away that you dread the trip to get there.

Upon a arrival I was relieved to find that my expectations of the area were fulfilled, and it was generally very tranquil, and a relaxing place. The holiday cottages are situated just at the edge of the town, so its easy enough to get there and back, but you don’t have to suffer the hustle and bustle of any typical town centre. I found the rooms all to be very comfortable and well decorated, and was pleasantly surprised by how modern the kitchen was.

Unfortunately, I can’t remember the last time I had a REAL holiday, and I did bring some work with me on my laptop – and to be honest I enjoyed getting it done far more for the fresher air, the quiet comfortable environment, and the lack of a hectic office surrounding me, and as such, I found that I did a far better job too!

One of the things I enjoyed most about the whole experience (strangely) was booking it! – The process was incredibly fast and very simple to complete – it really caused me no hassle at all, which was a huge relief, as the whole reason that I was taking the holiday was down to being already extremely stressed!

All in all – I’d definitely recommend it.

Mauritius for Christmius Dec 03

Every year christmas rolls around, and we deluded brits talk about a ‘white christmas’ like this will somehow make up for the sh#t weather during the rest of the winter, and every year (surprise surprise) it doesnt snow.

The point I am getting at here, is that the only thing that makes winter fun – is snow. Without it, there is no point to winter, there is no single enjoyable factor that sets it out from any other crap cold day of the year.

So why stay in England at all? There are so many nice HOT places that you could go for Christmas – and yeah, it’ll be a little different to your traditional chilly morning, but different in a good way!

Take a look at Mauritius for example

Now there’s a Christmas view and-a-half with a christmas palm tree to match!

I have to say that in my opinion waking up to white sand, gorgeous blue water, and a lot of sun – is definitely better than waking up to drizzle and a temperature of about 2 degrees.

Not to mention that Mauritius is a fantastic place and all the people are incredibly friendly, last time I was there I was amazed at how open and willing all the locals were to have a chat and find out where I was from – and the food is amazing!

So to conclude, don’t delude yourself yet again this year with ideas of a “white christmas” – bite the bullet and go somewhere that WILL be nice.
