Flaws in the design of the £210 million Glasgow Airport Rail Link have been cited as the reason behind the replacement of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport who have, so far, been responsible for the link.
The national body, Transport Scotland, is to take over management of the rail link which had been initiated and designed by SPT. The Scottish Transport Minister, Stewart Stevenson, has stated that the switch was the right way ahead as the rail link was a ‘nationally significant project’.
The new link is expected to be open in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games which are to be held in Glasgow. Construction is due to start in 2009.
