In The Jungle Friends Need Not Be Acquitances – Holidaychatter By : James G Kamweru May 21

One of the biggest lessons when in the midst of the untamed world is the accurate interpretation of sites and sounds. The behavior of monkeys, birds, small animals and antelopes are mostly in reaction to occurrences to their immediate neighbourhood.

Essential Camping Kit List May 20

Warmer weather appears to have come and gone, but many of us can’t wait to pack our rucksacks and head off for a night or two under canvas, far away from the maddening crowd.

Camping, hiking and trekking are becoming increasingly popular in the U.K. as people discover the fun that can be had by spending just a few nights away from their regular routines. Sleeping out, maybe in a tent, a hammock or sleeping bag, is a fantastic way to experience nature and share that experience with family and friends.

Here is a list of essential camping and hiking items that you shouldn’t be without:

Rucksack:A good rucksack is essential
A good quality rucksack, that can take all of your camping kit, is essential if you are hiking to your camping destination of maybe moving between campsites. There are a huge number of rucksacks on the market today so we recommend choosing one that has been tried and tested.

Headtorch:
One or more torches are absolutely essential. Headtorches are particularly useful as they leave both your hands free and they are less likely to get lost.

Sleeping Bag:
Choose a sleeping bag that is appropriate for the time of year and weather conditions. Not all sleeping bags are the same and, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Always choose a top quality sleeping bag as a good nights sleep is immensely important if you are to enjoy your camping trip.
A flysheet, hammock and sleeping bag make a great camp
Tent, Bivi Bag or Tarpaulin:
When sleeping out you will need, at the very least, a waterproof flysheet or tarpaulin. Combine this with a hammock to keep you off the ground and you have the makings of a comfortable campsite. For protection from wind you may prefer to use a tent. If you are hiking to your camping destination you will need to make certain that the tent is small and lightweight enough to be carried easily.

Water Carrier:
An adequate supply of water is absolutely essential when hiking and camping out. A good quality water carrier, along with a water flask and maybe some water purification tablets, should be high on your kit list.
A good quality anorak is essential for the British weather
Protective Clothing:
The UK weather, even in the summer, can be enormously unpredictable. In the course of a day you can find yourself sweltering in blazing sunshine only to be shivering in icy cold winds only hours later. Versatile, practical outdoor clothing is therefore essential. We recommend a good quality long-sleeve shirt paired with some tough, durable long trousers. For overall weather protection a good quality anorak is a good choice. And don’t forget your head. Keep the sun off with a tilley hat or, if you are braving colder conditions, you will need a woollen balaclava or beanie hat.

Footwear:
Anyone who has done any amount of hiking or trekking will know how important it is to look after your feet. Walking even a short distance in ill-fitting boots will give you painful blisters and prevent you from walking any further. You need a good pair of lightweight boots and a comfortable pair of socks, appropriate for the weather conditions and time of year.
A firestick will create a spark in any conditions
Fire:
Camping isn’t really camping without a camp fire. A firestick is a totally reliable way to create an intensely hot spark under any conditions. Combine this with a little dry tinder and you can create fire anywhere under almost any conditions.

Cooking Utensils:
Whether you are planning to cook on a camp-stove or open fire you will need some pans to hold your beans and sausages. A few good quality billy cans can last a lifetime.

Knife:
If there is one outdoor tool that is super-essential it’s a knife. If you have ever watched any of the Ray Mears TV series or Bear Grylls survival programmes you will have seen how these outdoor experts are never without a good quality knife.
The Mora Clipper is an excellent bushcraft knife.
First Aid:
Make certain to take an adequately equipped first aid kit. At the very least it should contain some anti-septic, a few good bandages, some insect repellent, lib balm and plasters.

Whistle:
When hiking or trekking, you don’t have to stray too far from well trodden paths to get lost. If you are on your own and become injured it is essential that you are able to attract the attention of people passing nearby. A simple whistle will do just that.

Hopefully these kit suggestion will help you with your camping preparations this summer. There are plenty of additional items that you may find useful link a satellite navigation device or a compass, but the items listed above should be considered essential if you are planning to spend more than maybe one night sleeping under the stars.

Stay at Home and Buy a RIB for Some Holiday Fun May 15

Here’s a simple alternative holiday idea that you may not have considered. Take the money that you would have otherwise spent on you and your family holidaying for maybe 2 weeks in Florida or the Costa del Sol and invest in a RIB (rigid inflatable boat).

Admittedly, RIBs are certainly not cheap. But a good second had boat can be had for a very reasonable sum, and you will be able to use it time and time again. Owning your own boat opens up all sorts of opportunities to spend some exciting and enjoyable times with your family and friends.

RIBs are a great way to make the most of the UK seas

Instead of wading through the crowds at the airports just hook up your trailer and tow your RIB to the beach and head off to a deserted cove, accessible only by boat, for a private little barbecue and picnic.

The following day, why not attach a water skiing tow rope and take it in turns to try your hand at skiing. If you are adventurous enough you could have a go at a little wakeboarding.

RIBs have a great reputation for their ability to handle even the roughest seas. So even if the water turns a little choppy you and your passengers will be in for an exciting ride and maybe a little wave-jumping if you are brave enough.

If you consider how much it costs for you and your family to holiday overseas it can suddenly make sense to save that cash and use to invest in something that will provide pleasure and enjoyment over and over again. A RIB will do just that.

Scots: Fly to England for a Great Holiday May 12

An increasing number of Brits are choosing to holiday in the U.K. rather than visit traditional European resorts like Benidorm and Torremolinos. The UK is rich with great holiday destinations

Scottish holiday makers are particularly blessed with some excellent airports providing regular flights to a variety of destinations on the UK.

For example, Bristol is a great place to start a holiday in the West Country or southern wales. Bristol itself is a great place to visit being the largest city in southern England with a rich seafaring history dating back to medieval times.

Southampton is another fantastic destination in southern England that can be a great starting point for holidays on the south coast. With easy access to the Isle of Wight and always lots to do and see, Southampton has a lot to offer any holiday maker.

And we mustn’t overlook Gatwick Airport. Located within easy reach of both London and Brighton, flying to Gatwick from Scotland could leave you stuck for choice as to which direction to head.

Here in the United Kingdom we have a wealth of great holiday destinations providing everything that their European counterparts provide and more. Air transport links from Scotland mean that Scottish holiday makers can reach their chosen destinations in no time at all.

By taking advantage of the excellent airport parking services available at their local airport they can make both their outbound and homeward bound journeys as pain free as possible.

Here are some links that will save you money when parking at these Scottish Airports:

Security Restrictions Cause Alcohol Poisoning May 12

Remember the limitations in the amount of liquid that can be carried on to aircraftA passenger at Nuremberg airport suffered severe self-inflicted alcohol poisoning after drinking 2 pints of vodka which he had been told he could not take on board the aircraft.

The 64 year old passenger was travelling home to Dresden from Egypt where he’d been on holiday. The new security restrictions, limiting the amount of liquid that anyone can carry onto an aircraft, meant that he was told to either dispose of the alcohol or pay extra to have it checked into the baggage hold.

Instead of paying the extra charge or throwing the alcohol away the foolhardy passenger drank the lot resulting in severe drunkenness and alcohol poisoning.

Airport officials are warning passengers that this is not a responsible way to deal with the liquid restrictions on aircraft.

Remember: If you are retrieving your car from an Airport Parking facility, don’t drink too much on your flight
