SeaDream Yacht Club cruises specialise in intimate and very exclusive cruise holidays for a definitely younger crowd. The ships operated by this company are magnificently appointed mega-yachts offering a true taste of marine luxury.

Seadream Cruises operates only two vessels (SeaDream I and II) which were both extensively remodelled to make them into contemporary boutique yachts. They both carry just 108 passengers, serviced by 89 crew, cruising the Mediterranean in the summer and Caribbean in the winter. Food on the SeaDream vessels is beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The entire purpose of these vessels is to provide a luxury cruise experience thats second to none.Thats reflected in the sheer opulence of the accommodation. Much like Silversea cruises, Seadream are all about exclusivity.

Bath amenities are by Bvlgari, while the bedroom and living room include state of the art flat screen TVs, radios, CD and DVD players. If that opulent luxury proves too overwhelming for your taste, you can choose to sleep on deck, under the stars, in Balinese Beds (huge comfy sun beds). The crew will arrange blankets and pillows.

Serving delicious cocktails and champagne, the Top of the Yacht bar is a central point for the guests where you’ll find and informal and fun crowd. In the evening you can enjoy listening to or singing along with the ships pianist or have a flutter in the small but more than adequate on-board casino. If that sound too sedentary for your liking, then take advantage of the water-sports equipment including pedalos and jet skis freely available for guests when the ship is at anchor. What You Need To Take On Your Cruise In Alaska Apr 25

An Alaskan cruise is definitely one of those one in a lifetime experiences. You will witness scenery and animals that very few people have had the pleasure of seeing and indeed cannot be seen by any other method. You cannot even see them on Canada Holidays cruises. It’s a completely different game though from most cruises and so you’ll need to pack very differently also.So which items are the most important to take?

Warm clothes. It might sound like a silly thing to need to remind people but a lot of tourists associate cruises with sun and heat. Alaska can get pretty cold, with temperatures heading towards -30 degrees Celsius in the winter. The summer time offers some more reasonable temperatures but if you are going to be in the elements you will still need some clothes with decent warmth.

Binoculars. You really will regret it if you forgot to bring these. When all around you are pointing at things and smiling with joy, you will be struggling to make out a very small dot that could be a penguin. Because everything is so big in Alaska, including the boats, most of the things you want to look at will be reasonably small in comparison. Binoculars will save your eyesight and give you a much clearer picture of what is going on.

Camera. You might not even require a pair of binoculars if you find that you camera has a good enough zoom. The majority of us will need to bring both though. A camera is not only useful for studying the pictures after you have taken them but also to share the experience of your amazing Alaska cruise with friends and family when you return.

Wildlife book.  Believe me when you spot and animal and don’t know what it is, if you don’t have a reference book it will bug you for ages. It can also be quite fun learning about the wildlife and understanding what their actions mean and how they go about their days.

Thermos. When a lot of your time is spent above board, a thermos is God send. There is not much more to explain about this.

Choosing A Charter Yacht Apr 25

sailing charter

Luxury yacht charters may come with a full crew consisting of a captain, a skipper, cleaning personnel, an activities planner and a chef. You needn’t sail away with hundreds of other passengers; if you have the money or the inclination, you and your spouse, friends or family members can traverse on your own private boat. Or, if you are particularly adventurous and knowledgeable, you and a few friends can hop aboard a bareboat charter, pioneering through the waters like Amerigo Vespucci. On a smaller budget you can simply employ a skipper to help sail your ship, take a sail with a few other couples on a smaller boat or charter a flotilla fleet of 8-10 boats. Choosing the right charter yacht can save you a lot of time and will ensure that your expectations are met.

A sailboat charter is a great choice if you want the ocean, the wind and the marine life to be part of your whole travel experience. Yet, it is not about getting where you are going. For you it is about the journey. You can coast leisurely during calm weather or be whisked away with the trade-winds, feeling the breeze through your hair and the mist on your face. You enjoy learning to raise the sail, ducking so you don’t whack your head on the boom occasionally and coasting over the waves with natural wind power. Sail boats provide exhilarating rides and the price is right, although they may not be for everyone. When they speed up, the boat may tilt to the left a little and provide a wilder ride for novices. There is also less space on a sailing charter than what the powerboats have to offer.

If you are choosing a charter yacht as an alternative to flying and just want to use the boat as your transport, then power boats or motor yachts may be more your speed. You will not have to deal with sails, ropes or the weather. You just turn the key and soar across the water, while enjoying your sizable living quarters packed with modern conveniences. Your living quarters can have air conditioners, en-suite bathrooms, luxury kitchens and master staterooms. The downside to driving powerboats is the fuel consumption, which accounts for the higher price deferential. However, you will be able to do more on a power boat vacation since your boat can travel from point A to point B much faster.

To save the hassle, many people choose the crewed charter yacht option. You can have a skipper or owner only or you may have a captain, a first mate, a chef and a full crew. You will have people working behind the scenes to make your sailing vacation truly magical. They will be cooking, cleaning, planning activities (if necessary) and navigating the ship. Since the sailors own the yacht, it will likely be in better condition than a bareboat charter and you will feel as though you are at a bed and breakfast, rather than some austere boat tour. Fully crewed luxury yachts are the most expensive option, ranging from $20,000 for a 46 foot sailing yacht with four guests, to a 170-foot motor yacht accommodating ten guests for $250,000 a week plus expenses. Truly, there is a boat for everyone.

Sinking Boats – 5 Tips For Survival Apr 25

Boats do sink. Granted, it thankfully happens a lot less these days but they do still happen all around the world, even on five star cruises. There are a lot more ships that head towards the bottom of the sea than say planes that fall to earth, so knowing what to do in the event of a sinking could serve you well. Remember these 5 points and you’ll stand a much better chance of getting out alive

Life jacket. If you do one thing to help save your life, make sure it is wearing a life jacket. more lives have been preserved by using them than by any piece of equipment on ships. The 2 top reasons are that a life jacket will keep you upright and let you know where the water’s surface is if you become disorientated. Secondly, you cannot swim for an indefinite amount of time and a lifejacket will keep you afloat without your effort

remain calm
. A great deal of people who have made it off sinking boats suggest that they survived mainly due to staying settled and calm. You use up a great deal more energy when you become panicked and the choices you make are often not the best as you head is not clear. Sinking ships rarely go down rapidly, so just remind yourself to calm down and make clear choices and actions

Stay high
.When a boat is on its way to join the fishes, you really do not want to be anywhere south of the deck. There are a lot more hazards below deck and you can easily get trapped in rooms or pockets of water. make your way up to the deck of the ship and do not move from there

Swim away from ship. There are have been tests that disprove the theory that a sinking ship will pull you down with it. However, there is no way of really knowing for sure as every sinking is different, but people how have escaped sinking ships have sometimes talked about being sucked down with it. Rather than take your chances, you should move away from a ship that is going down by at least fifty metres

Stick together. If there is no lifeboat to get into, ensure that everyone huddles in a group in the water. This will help keep everyone warm, will deter any predators as they rarely attack big objects and will help you to be spotted be passing ships or rescue parties.

Mississippi Cruise Offers: How To Choose The Right One Apr 25

River cruises are some of the most pleasurable ways to travel, and a Mississippi cruise is no exception.

Mississippi cruises, especially of the luxury sort, tend to have a distinct theme to delight the passengers. This is very often historical, but it could also be something else, like a cruise that stops predominantly in secluded rural spots, as opposed to one that is made for people who like visiting cities.

A paddle-wheel steamboat is certainly the best way to cruise and at the same time explore the history of the Mississippi River. You get to see the “showboat” amusements of the past. You will visit cities such as New Orleans, Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis, and visit sights such as the latter’s Gateway Arch. You will taste excellent Cajun food on board.

The three steamboats offering historical Mississippi River cruises are the American Queen, the Delta Queen, and the Mississippi Queen.

A themed cruise on the other hand is more oriented towards a specific subject, for example Big Band, Jazz, Civil War, and Cajun. Riverboat cruises offer very different experiences to passengers.

Alternatives are many – whether you want to explore the customs of the regions’ Native American inhabitants, or learn some Bluegrass, you will not be disappointed.

Several cruises are narrated, providing informative history accounts and bringing the Mississippi of olden times to life. Most themes are linked to the region’s traditions and glorious past.

A Mississippi cruise can be playground to all sorts of different people. Whether you are travelling alone, with spouse and kids, as a couple or with friends, you will be able to secure a trip that is just right for your party.

In a way, seasonal cruises can also be considered to be of the themed sort. Imagine for instance a cruise in autumn, with a plethora of different colours amongst the local forests, and a menu to match the landscape. Game, pumpkin, roasted vegetables and farm-brewed apple cider could be served on your cruse ship’s restaurant.

Mississippi cruises are truly a fantastic way to explore a great and glorious part of the United States. Whatever your specific tastes and inclinations, you can be assured that you will find a cruise that will feel right for you.

European River Travel In All Opulence Apr 24

River travel has been growing in popularity for the past few years with more and more families taking that option for their first family cruise or their annual retreat, and more than ever so when going to Europe.

One of the causes for the rising popularity of European river travel is that even for a luxury cruise prices are sill noticeably lower than for an ocean cruise, if you compare them to each other. For instance there are vary good alternatives to an expensive seaborne cruise for a family, and many will prove to be far more relaxing, as well as enriching.

For instance, a week travelling down the magnificent Rhine River, savoring the attractions and the culture of Switzerland, France, Germany and the Benelux, possibly with a few days on a side trip to another city close by, is not going to cost more than a comparable cruise in the Caribbean.

If you book European river travel, you will usually fly out to one of the major European cities where the cruise will depart from and there you will meet your ship, this ship will then take you on a passage down some of the most celebrated and beautiful rivers on the continent.

As many of the rivers that you will travel down go through some of the most major cities in Europe, a European river cruise is a great way to visit many main cities on one holiday without the annoyance of having to negotiate foreign roads, just sit back and wait for the next town to come to you.

Even while the boats that you will be on during European river travel are much smaller than their ocean going cousins, they are no less lavish and the service that you can expect whilst traveling is no less breathtaking.

For instance, the cuisine that you will experience on a premium quality wholly catered European river cruise will be just as good as the one in the continent’s most renowned hotels. You can also expect a room service that will be just as good, with luxurious rooms that will be cleaned every day.

As for the things that you will be doing during your European river travel experience, the holiday will generally be more varied than an oceangoing cruise, with a heavier emphasis on sightseeing, and the local culture. Bit there will also be a lot of time to just relax on deck, and on-board entertainment will be provided for.

In fact European river travel can offer all the luxury and panache that you may be accustomed in a high quality sea cruise, but with some extra pizzazz on top. So regardless of whether you have been on a cruise boat before, this could be the year to consider booking a trip on Europe’s waterways.

European River Travel: From Budget To Luxury Cruising Apr 21

If you are thinking about river travel, you should spend a moment to consider a European cruise. These kinds of waterborne trips are great to explore the interior of a country, and especially so no the European continent, with its tightly packed and diverse cultures and nationalities.

River travel is probably one of the most comfortable and stylish ways to travel, and going on a river cruise in Europe will be the experience of a lifetime for you, whether you go alone, with one or more friends, with your significant other, or decide go with members of your family.

Compared to seaborne cruising, there is much more inland territory you can cover on a river trip, and compared to car-borne holidays you won’t have to experience the discomfort of constant hotel changes. Plus who has ever heard of a river traffic gridlock?

Also, don’t think that riverboats are devoid of comfort just because they are smaller then seagoing vessels. You will find that the rooms are functional but spacious, and that your  cruise boat will also feature comfortable common areas such as eating and lounging spaces, as well as viewing spaces to soak in the scenery, of course.

For the preparation, before looking at the specific trip, you should determine the length of the voyage, the area you want to see and also the general level of comfort that you would expect.

River trip lengths can be very variable, although the most typical ones are one or two weeks, or more. Another possibility is to spend only a short time on the river, combining it with a land-based visit. For instance, you could spend three days in Paris and then cruise down the Seine for another three days.

As for the location, trips tend to concentrate on the bigger rivers such as the Rhine, the Danube and the Seine, but there are also lesser-known alternatives, such as the tributaries of the Elbe in Germany, the Po in the north of Italy, or the rivers of Poland and European Russia.

Make sure that you also choose the season well. Areas such as the South of France and the Netherlands are more suited to a trip in the warmer months, due to the bloom in vegetation that you will experience.

During the holidays in the winter, on either a Rhine river cruise or a Danube river cruise you could stop and walk through the renowned Christmas Markets of Germany and Austria.

Concerning the level of comfort, you will find that there are a great number of alternatives, from Spartan drive-your-own houseboat hires to  luxury cruse ships that have a lot in common with high-end hotels, but that retain an individual character.
