The county town of Matlock is found in the county of Derbyshire in England which is right on the edge of the Peak District. It makes an ideal place to stay whether you’re staying for a traditional one or two week holiday or just a short break such as a long weekend regardless of the time of year.
However when it comes to accommodation in Matlock you have a wide range to select from during the time you stay in this wonderful town. Here, we’ll be looking at just some of the places worth considering staying in during your visit to Matlock.
First off there is Darwin Forest Country Park which is situated in the Derbyshire Dales between Matlock and Bakewell. Covering forty four acres all told, the park is a place you can spend time relaxing as you wander around the gardens. Plus there is also a gymnasium, an indoor pool, spa, sauna and steam rooms for your enjoyment. However, whilst your wife is being pampered with one of the many beauty therapy treatments there are also tennis courts and a games room or play a round of mini golf.
If you are intending to visit Matlock with children this facility has plenty to offer them as well. There are the adventure playgrounds along with all that woodland surrounding the site to explore as well. The park offers a number of self catering lodges which are designed to cope with all weathers and so they are good for summer or winter holidays.
Another place to think about is called the Old Sunday School because it used to be used as a Methodist Sunday school and was lovingly restored to its former glory in 1998. Due to its nature, there aren’t many rooms but the ones that are there come complete with en-suite facilities and are nicely furnished and decorated. But unlike Darwin Forest Country Park this one is situated in the centre of Matlock town so is close to the pubs and restaurants.
Another place to consider staying at when visiting Matlock is Robertswood Country House which is less than a mile from the town centre. So you can actually walk to Matlock if you wish. It can be found on the Farley hill side set in tranquil woodland it does offer the peace and tranquility that is perfect for helping you to relax. Plus those rooms on the south facing side of the house have uninterrupted views over Derwent Valley and the Peak National Park that surround it.
