When travelling by air you need to be very aware of what you can and can’t do with your luggage. There are restrictions on the size, weight and contents of your hand luggage and these can vary from airline to airline. Here are just a few tips that will hopefully help you to have problem-free journey.
- Before going to the airport, find out what the limitations are regarding hand luggage;
- Always carry a laptop as hand luggage and be prepared for it to be inspected by security personnel (it makes sense to backup all of your laptop data before you travel);
- Limit your hand luggage contents to valuables, camera film and essentials that you will need on the flight;
- Make certain that your checked in luggage is labelled clearly with your name, address and flight number;
- Choose luggage that can be easily identified on the luggage carousel;
- Ensure there are no protrusions or straps that might become snagged on the baggage conveyor system;
- Your luggage may need to be opened by security staff so be prepared for this;
- Always be certain that your baggage doesn’t carry any items that are not allowed by your air line
I hope that, by following these basic tips, you will have a problem free journey and both you and your baggage will arrive at your destination safely.

For great savings on Glasgow airport parking I strongly recommend that you book your parking space well in advance.

Would New Service Impact Airline Traffic? This next item isn’t an aviation story, per se… but it could pose significant ramifications for the nation’s airline industry, and even to a much lesser-extent general aviation.

I have come to the conclusion that going on one of those great luxury cruises is actually worth all the money as well as being a lot better than taking a plane there. But why on earth is it better?
There is no need to arrive 3-4 hours before you depart as your bags are checked quicker than they are at an airport which is brilliant for stress levels. As well as this there is no waiting to get to your destination as essentially as soon as you board the ship you are at your hotel room and can lie down and rest or jump straight into the pool.
There are also casinos, free room service, and bars to go to as soon as you step foot onto the ship. Free drinks are only available on planes if you are travelling long haul with one of the expensive airlines like BA or Virgin.
You actually have legroom! On a cruise you are never restricted to how much room you have whereas on a plane unless you can afford to go first class which not many people can you are very restricted on how much you can move around.
If your in danger there are lifeboats to board and it saves jumping out of a plane and the likelihood of anyone being injured at all is extremely low. No need to worry about terrorism on a cruise ship, well not yet anyway! All you really need to worry about are pirates and that is only if you are near the pirate zones.
Of course there is the possibility of storms but hey when that happens just head downstairs and relax with a game of pool or a nice drink, or even both!
I have to admit I love flying and I would never say cruise every year instead of flying to your favourite destination but going on a luxury cruise is nice every so often and with Regent Cruises (the one I went with) you are sure to have a better time than on an aeroplane.
“Either name that node after me, or I too will reject democracy and seize power as space’s evil tyrant overlord. Ball’s in your court.” Source: Comedian Stephen Colbert, who has campaigned to get various things named after him… including Node 3 of the International Space Station. His write-in campaign to get NASA to name the new station assembly after himself drew 230,000 votes in NASA’s online contest, more than any other name… but it seems unlikely the agency will accept the results of the non-binding contest… right?

As Oil Prices Climb Again, May Gamble To Recoup Losses Airline execs who got too aggressive hedging fuel last July — when oil was trading at $147 a barrel — found themselves unable to reap the benefits when that price plummeted 75 percent in the last quarter of 2008.

Improved Program To Be Submitted To FAA For Approval Initiated in 1994, the Aviation Safety Action Partnership, or ASAP, was a joint-effort between American Airlines, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Allied Pilots Association. Giving first priority to travel safety, ASAP provided AAL pilots a way to report safety-related incidents, without fear of disciplinary action or retribution from management or the FAA… even if those pilots were at fault.

“We are pleased that, together, we were able to bring back a critical safety program that has served our pilots, our airline and our industry so well for so many years. Not only that, but in the process, we improved upon and created a program that once again sets the standard for our industry.” Source: A joint message issued Thursday by both American Airlines management and the Allied Pilots Association, regarding a newly-revised Aviation Safety Action Partnership (ASAP) to replace the former agreement that lapsed last year.

Aero-Linx! The Order of Daedalians honors, as its Founder Members, all WWI aviators who were commissioned as officers and rated as military pilots no later than the Armistice on 11 November 1918. It perpetuates their names as the first to fly our country’s airplanes in time of war.
