The reccession and the London hotel industry Jun 06

London has a lot of business establishment and many companies have their headquarters in it. At the same time the City is very lively. People visit London for many different reasons. Travellers come to London either for business or to visit famous London Landmarks. London is a business Centre and also has a lot of tourists attraction centres. The Buckingham Palace,Trafalgar, Piccadilly Circus, Houses of Parliament, etc. are some of the most visited Landmarks. There are also people who always want to shop in London. There is a high concentration of shops on the Oxford Street, Regent Street, Bond Street which are some of Europe’s famous shopping street.

Businesses fear collapse which the world economic crisis will bring. Many workers have been made redundant and many business establishments are shutting down.. Cutting down of the work force and redundancy is seen all over the place. The slow down will continue for sometime before the big economies recover from it according to experts. The current recession does not bother one industry. It is in connection with the hotel industry. What are the effects so far on Hotel industry? The research on the article has been made only on London hotels and bed and breakfast.

There are no negative effect of the reccession on the Hotel industry in London yet, from my little research. We have worked with many hotels in London for a long time. We have dealt with small hotels and big hotels. London hotels and bed and breakfast have not seen a fall in sales since I started the research to date.

All the hotels we have on our portal have their login details and they can log on to our system and close out dates they are full up. How come hotels are still getting full every weekend and also weekdays despite the economic crisis
.
London Hotels experienced a boom last year especially between March and July. We are not in the position the book any rooms for our clients most of the time because hotels log onto the system and close out dates all the time. Some dates ahead are already full up in many of the hotels in London. Availability situation in some hotels become so tight that, certain times, the hotels themselves have to look for room availability in other hotels. We cannot get rooms for our clients because hotels have closed out on our real time booking system.

As the exchange rate of the pound to the other currencies has gone down, travellers may be feel that they stand to get more value for their money when they shop or spend their holidays in London. In view of that hotels still get full up because more travellers come in. However, the British pound was a bit strong against some major currencies in some parts of the year 2008. Is London so popular that regardless of the situation people still have to travel here? The research is not yet complete; I am still monitoring the hotel industry. If the London hotel industry starts to experience a slow down, then the very few that will be travelling to London will gain a lot from it. This is because they will be guaranteed special London hotel offers, cheap London hotels accommodation and also cheap London bed and breakfast rates. The Tavistock hotel London is an example of such hotels.
